So day 4 was a fairly short day. We started out by climbing the Barranco wall. It involved a lot of rock scrambling and I loved that part. This was also the first day I had worn our big camera back for an ascent. Once we finally figured out the best way to wear it, the camera bag was fairly comfortable, even scaling a rock wall. We had a break at the top, where J had to do some pushups to keep warm and then we continued across the top of the wall. Next we traversed through the valleys, which just seemed to go on forever. We did a big descent and then ascended slowly through a lot of scree (small pieces of rock and dirt that moves pretty easily under your feet). We took a short break at the top before making our final descent which was long and very steep. Scrambling up a wall is one thing, scrambling down a wet wall with streams running through is quite another. When we finally got to the bottom we realized we had one more big ascent to go before we reached camp.
Day 4 also marked a special birthday. One of our climbing mates Chris celebrated his 30th birthday. So at 15K feet above sea level our amazing cooks made him a birthday cake!
Tonight was also the first day that we did our OxyPulse (oxygen saturation and heart rate). I was O:89/P:97 J was O:89/P:105. Not bad, but we expect that these numbers will drop as we continue to gain elevation.
Lala Salaam (sleep well)
