Trip to Sweden

We took a trip to visit my cousin and his family in Sweden. It was a wonderful trip, relaxing, and just what we needed. My cousin was, as always, an amazing host and we had a wonderful time at their cabin on a lake. Being so close to Midsummers we hardly had a night time but it made for some amazing evenings. I tried to take a few pictures but it just couldn't capture the beauty. We also did a bit of sightseeing since Javier had never been there before. Thanks J&E for a wonderful time.

No trip to Sweden is complete without a stop in Stockholm so we stayed one night and did a bit of sightseeing. It was as I had remembered it from years past and it was great to show it off. We also, finally, enjoyed a nice dinner out for our anniversary compliments of my parents. The dinner was amazing and I would recommend the Sturehof to anyone who fines their way to Stockholm.

2nd Hike - Kloster Eberbach

Starting Point: Kloster Eberbach
Distance: 9km

This Saturday we headed to Kloster Eberbach to start our hike. We didn't get a chance to check it out, but certainly that will be another trip. We were a bit off the beaten trail, turning where we wanted to onto paths that could only vaguely be called trails. Fortunately Javier had is hiking gps and we never got lost. We did get wet. Very wet. Good thing we had our new rain gear with us and were able to give it a try.

We also made a great find at the peak of our hike. An old Hallgarten used for parties that had lodging and a restaurant. In its heyday the view must have been beautiful. Our rainy pictures above show the building still erect. If it weren't such a cloudy day we would have gotten a picture of the view as well. BTW, we didn't have to climb over that fence to get in. There was a gap in the fence around the backside and we climbed in that way.

Along the way we found the Camel and Alpacca farm nearby. On our way down the views were amazing. You could see the towns and farms for miles (or kilometers). The Rhine is somewhere in the background of this picture. The photo just doesn't do the scene justice.

Finally toward the end of our hike we found this little guy. Thought I would get his picture since we had seen so many along the way and this was the only one in a shell.

1st Hike - Schlaeferskopf

We've started heading out on weekly hikes to explore the Taunus mountains and more importantly train for our trip to Kilimanjaro in January. With all this new gear to test we set out to find a peak to climb and some trails to tackle. We probably did about 6km, but were proud none the less as we found this cool restaurant atop the peak we were climbing.

Maria's Visit

Maria visited us for a few days while in Frankfurt for work. We were able to squeeze in a quick trip to Amsterdam to check out the Heineken Brouwery, the Van Gogh museum and, of course, the Red Light district.

Check out our photos:
