Progress on the apartment

Though there are still boxes everywhere, we've made great strides to settling in. Here's an update on our progress.

Since we're waiting for the delivery of our real kitchen, for now this is what we have to work with. We've brought up the shelving from the basement to store our cookware and dishes. Our temporary sink is small, but does the job. You can't see it but we've got a US sized fridge to the right too. We can't get too used to that though because its going downstairs as soon as the real kitchen gets here.

In the living room we done our painting and hung our pictures. We've gone bold on color. We're still getting used to it a bit but we really like it. The entertainment center is new and unfortunately for Javier the TV is not (this is the one item he was hoping the movers wouldn't deliver).

A busy week

Last week was a busy, but entertaining week for us. After the Rolling Stones concert on Monday night, we headed into Frankfurt on Wednesday for sushi. Danielle and I took the train in early to walk around. During our walk we came across this old section of Frankfurt:

Finding the shopping in Frankfurt was admittedly much easier than finding sushi. August is well known to be the favorite vacation time of Europeans and we found this out the hard way. We tried 3 different sushi restaurants until we found one that was open. By the end of the night we found ourselves eating at a hibachi restaurant instead of a sushi restaurant, but a good time was had by all. Thursday was bowling at city bowl with our sponsor Dave and some of his friends. Friday was the Wine Fest in Wiesbaden and Saturday was the Wine Fest in Rudesheim. As you can tell in the summer here you are never without a wine fest. We've had some great wines too.

Sunday we went biking with Danielle and Jonathan to Eltville for lunch. We'd have taken pictures but we left our camera at home and Jonathan left his battery in the charger :) Take our word for it the ride was beautiful.

The Rolling Stones

Last night a group of us drove to Dusseldorf to see the Rolling Stones. We had free tickets (courtesy of the USO), so decided the 2 hour drive was worth it to see the show. Packed in Walt's minivan and Johanna's Subaru we made our way up. Here are some pictures from the festivities:

Wiesbaden Wine Fest

This weekend was the first weekend of the Wiesbaden winefest. The fest is set up right in the center of down where the shopping area, open air market and pedestrian area is. There are hundreds of tents set up right now. Here you can see all the people hundled together under the various wine tents.
Friday started off as a rainy day but quickly cleared up, making for a great night out. Here's a picture of Kristine & Javier and Kristine & Danielle (Danielle and Jonathon got married the same day we did, just a different tropical location)
Here are some of our friends at the Irish Pub, after wine fest. Its Nam, Dave (the best sponsor ever), and Danielle
Here's a picture of the Saturday night crew. Here we had a table for the night so we could just sit back, drink, and talk.

Our new home!

Its been a while since we've written, but for good reason. We've been finishing up the house hunting signing our lease and as of late, unpacking. We're finally moved in!
This was maybe one of the first places we saw but we loved it right away. Its right near Kurpark (and the clay tennis courts that Javier swears he's going to use regularly). We're an easy walk into downtown but its also quiet where we are. We have an amazing view of the city and sun all day long. What more could you ask for?
Here are some pictures:
First is part of our living room, then the master bathroom and the bedroom.

This is our kitchen, or at least the space where the kitchen is going to go. Our landlord has designed a really cool kitchen for us. In the mean time we have a temporary refrigerator, stove and sink to get us through. Hopefully by the end of September we'll have our real kitchen.

Aside from these rooms we have another full bathroom, a guest room, a bonus room on the first floor (we're on the third) and some storage space. We do have a garage but instead of putting the car there we've decided the grill and bikes need that space (and we really did have to make a decision because you can't fit the car and other stuff).

There will be more pictures up as we paint and get the furniture set up.
