Shira Camp was so beautiful when we woke up in the morning. The views were amazing and we were off to a great start again with a wonderful breakfast. Day 3 was going to be a long, hard day. We would reach over 15K feet before heading back down to camp for the night.
We climbed slow and steady all morning. It was cold and windy. By the time we got to 15K feet the wind was really going strong, fortunately it was time to stop for lunch.
After a much needed lunch break the group split and some of us made the extra journey a few hundred vertical feet more to reach Lava Tower. We went with the fast group and it was tough going to keep up but we made it and were rewarded with a nice rest and some beautiful views. A smaller group of us scaled Lava tower, scrambling up the rock faces until we got to the top. It was a bit cloudy and foggy but it all passed at just the right moment for a group photo.
The way down was tough on the knees because of the steepness. We followed a river bed all the way down surrounded by beautiful vegetation. Though we didn't get into camp until 4pm, the views from camp were amazing. We camped just at the base of the Barranco wall (the challenge for the next day). We took some pictures of the views and then headed in for an amazing dinner...finished off with an upside down mango cake. Yumm.
